Incremental Debian backup
#1
Hi,

I look for incremental backup open source software. Can someone tell me the best solution ?

I would like to have this capacity :

restore one site (joomla files + mysql) web easilly.

I use Acronis for windows in another server and i can restore a site in less than 5 minutes, il would like to do this in Debian.

rsync command is a good and effective way of doing backup.
it is an command line utility. has many options.
it has gui tools too. you may search for it.

basic/most fast (i think) usage:

rsync -arvz sourcedir targetip:/targetdir

with -arvz options, rsync does following:

recursive, with directories,

verbose mode, prints to screen what it does,

compress, incrementally sends

one very important feature of rsync is: it only transfers changed parts of files.. so, your backups will be much faster after initial one.

with above command, you dont need to compress files separately, rsync does that.
