Install EHCP to intranet.
#1
Hi there, As I already saw this is a very cool software!
I want to kindly ask something. I installed the EHCP to an Ubuntu server (like the HOWTOForge) and everything is ok. I dont have a real domain name. I want to use it to my intranet (school) but I want to see and administer also via a DYNDNS account through internet.
I am confused about the Domain names (in my case there isn't any) and with FTP, mail server, etc.
Is it any Howto for installations like I described?
Please advice...
By the way... the installation script for Joomla is for 1.5.4 Is it any way to place the 1.5.9. version?

Thanks

If you want your domain/domains to be accessible only from your local network, you can use any domain name you want and set your server as the dns for the computers on the network. The domain doesn't have to be registered anywhere. You don't need dyndns or afraid.org to do that, but when someone from outside your network tries to access one of your domains he'll get an error stating that the domain name was not found.

Also if you use an existing domain (google.com for example), the users in your network will be redirected to your page when trying to access that domain).

If you want to use dyndns or afraid.org, just register a domain or subdomain on their site and set the A record to your server's ip, then add the domain/subomain in ehcp.

It's the record that connects the domain name to your ip. Don't worry about that; I'm sure the dyndns page explains it.

Everything OK.
When I hit my IP from inside the Lan then I saw the "Easy Hosting Control Panel for Ubuntu and alikes.." and I can go to the control panel.
When I hit the dyndns domain from the internet (internet cafe) I saw "Under Construction" .
My question:
From internet cafe how can I see the control panel of the EHCP???
thanks

lets say, your server/ehcp is located on your office,
office is connected to internet/real world with a real ip, with a modem/router,
lets say, your server inside office has a local ip of like 192.168.1.100 (should be static inside)
lets say, you have an external real ip of 88.233.2.3 on your modem, mostly assigned by your isp (this should be static too)

then, you should do following:
on your modem/router: do a static nat (or some router/modems call it virtual server or simply server) to your internal ip of 192.168.1.100
thus, external people will write on address bar of firefox: http://88.233.2.3, will see ehcp, will be able to control your ehcp.
in internet cafe, you will write http://88.233.2.3

thats all.

Maybe I was not so clear....
I have the Dyndns account (for example) test.ftp.org
My server's IP is 192.168.1.100 (local network).
I made a port forwarding from my router port 80,21 (http, ftp) to my server's IP.
When I write http://test.ftp.org from internet (internet cafe) I see the page:
" Under Construction
This site is hosted on an EHCP server, www.ehcp.net, ehcp is a hosting control panel for ubuntu,
To change this, Upload your files inside httpdocs folder using ftp."

So no access to EHCP control panel!!!

When I write from intranet the same http://test.ftp.org or 192.168.1.100 I can see the site:
"Easy Hosting Control Panel for Ubuntu and alikes..
This is default ehcp-apache index file.
click here for EHCP CONTROL PANEL HOME on your server"

So I can have access to the control panel.

My question is how can I have access to EHCP from real internet when I write http://test.ftp.org
Do I have to place any specific port in order to access the control panel (like any other control panel) or not?

Thanks

there is no specific port for ehcp,
you should only access http://your.real.ip

if your office's external ip is constant,
then, to determine your real ip, in office,
open firefox, go to http://www.showmyip.com
note that ip,
you may access that ip from world.

if your office's external ip is not constant,
then, in an external internet cafe:
try:
open a command line,
enter: ping test.ftp.org
you will see in ping output the ip of your office..

you may use that ip in http://your.ip.number to reach ehcp

understand ?
