i need to ask some questions:
1- which linux version do you use?
2- can you make a re-install and send the console output to me, to check proper install ,
3- did you do a clean install, that is, previous server related programs may need to be removed... or a clean linux install may solve problem.
4- if problem persists, may you send me your ip and pass so that i can connect by ssh and check your server, to solve your problem.

i hope i may help you solve your problem.
normally, when ehcp installed normal way, smpt/pop mail works with no errors...
