SMTP not reachable from external network
#1
Hi
Updated to latest version and got complaints from a couple of users about SMTP being unreachable.

Hooked up to an external network and couldn't reach postfix on port 25 as usual. Switched to port 465 and got this error in thunderbird.

5.7.1 <unknown[62.243.129.82]>: Client host rejecte: Access denied. Check receiver addresses and try again.

The last part is my own translationSmile

Any ideas?

check a few things:
<li> make sure your ports are open in your router/modem
<li> check network requirements as described in http://www.ehcp.net/helper/yardim/cats.php
<li> check /var/log/syslog while trying to login, examing that log enaughly.
<li> make sure your postfix running by /etc/init.d/postfix restart

<cite>Client host rejected: Access denied</cite>

They are 25,143,465 and 993

<cite>check network requirements as described in http://www.ehcp.net/helper/yardim/cats.php</cite>

I did. I'm using static IP's both internal and external, so it shouldn't be a problem.

<cite>check /var/log/syslog while trying to login, examing that log enaughly.</cite>

Output from syslog:
Nov 9 17:50:31 mail named[1694]: client 127.0.0.1#39292: RFC 1918 response from Internet for 6.0.0.10.in-addr.arpa

<cite>make sure your postfix running by /etc/init.d/postfix restart</cite>

mail:~# /etc/init.d/postfix status
postfix is running.

please try this:
ehcp gui->options->fix mail configuration

retry same test..

I guess, your postfix rejecting emails from 10.0.0.0/8 network
in log: "Client host rejected: Access denied"
this is the key, i think

fixed mail configuration, and same problem..

But apparently you made smtp authentification work, so problem solved, just needed to set up authentification in thunderbird.

Nice work Smile
