if you see php source code after installation,

check that you have following files:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 2008-12-29 10:29 php5.conf -> ../mods-available/php5.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 2008-12-29 10:29 php5.load -> ../mods-available/php5.load

in your dir: /etc/apache2/mods-enabled

and check that the file /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.conf contains like:

<IfModule mod_php5.c>
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml .php3
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
</IfModule>
