ehcp installation mysql password howto
#1
while you install ehcp, you need to enter your mysql root password.
if you dont know it, you may recover it as described here: http://www.ehcp.net/?q=node/160

if you are not able to learn or recover, i advice you to do a clean ubuntu install.

Please note that, if you reset your mysql pass, and if you have other software on your server that uses same mysql root pass, then they may not function after recovery..
But if you just installed your server, you may reset/recover your mysql pass safely...

if you need further help, look at troubleshooter at your ehcp installation, or http://www.ehcp.net/helper/yardim/cats.php

if you get this error, after a while, after you used sometime your ehcp:
either reset your ehcp pass as in your config.php in ehcp dir,
or change config.php to reflect your new ehcp mysql user pass.
you may also have deleted ehcp mysql user accidentally, then add that user in your phpmyadmin.

This is not a satisfactory explanation. If there are limits to what the password can be other than it cannot contain a # symbol, then its not clear.

I will attempt to install this software one mroe time, failing a satifactory result, I will move on and never return.

Perhaps some clear and updated documentation will help?

This post is a bit old,

Following version 0.29.09, ehcp checks the password for a # in it, and refuses to use it, re-asks user.. So, there is not such possibility.

If you cannot install or use ehcp, there may be other causes.
Please explain here, what you cannot do, or at which point did you fail ?

See you.

Yeah, it does say that you may not use # in password.

So far, on Ubuntu 8.04 and Ubuntu 9.04 standrd server install, only select SSH server, all updtes, install of EHCP fails with Unable to connect to SQL - password error - unless the password is only alpha-numeric. Any otehr character inpassword produces problems. The web interface says to alter config file, but my system has several files of the same name and there is still not enough clarity around whether the MySQL password should be changed, or the 'EHCP User' of MySQL?

In Ubuntu 9.04 unresolved dependancies and some missing packages "install candidate not available", I can produce the logs if I know where to get them - the screen travels too fast for me to capture or see the missing package details.

In my view, for a hosting platform, alpha-numeric password are simple and a security risk.

Any pointers - I'd love to get this working 100%?
