SSL configuration on domains managed EHcp
#1
Hi there:

I was able to install EHCP on an ubunto 8.10 server with no problems, everything is running smooth and i like it.
However one of domains requires a SSL certificate.
I placed the order for the ssl certificate i was able to generate the ssl cerficate using the following command
in the terminal

openssl req -nodes -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout myserver.key -out server.csr

This placed 2 files under /etc/apache2/ssl called server.csr and private.key

When i purchased the ssl from comodo.com they ask me for my server.csr and as soon as they generated the ssl cerficate they email it back to me. The cerfificate is right into the email starting like this....

-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
MIAGCSqGSIb3DQEHAqCAMIACAQExADALBgkqhkiG9w0BBwGggDCCAmowggHXAhAF
UbM77e50M63v1Z2A/5O5MA0GCSqGSIb3DQEOBAUAMF8xCzAJBgNVBAYTAlVTMSAw
(.......)
E+cFEpf0WForA+eRP6XraWw8rTN8102zGrcJgg4P6XVS4l39+l5aCEGGbauLP5W6
K99c42ku3QrlX2+KeDi+xBG2cEIsdSiXeQS/16S36ITclu4AADEAAAAAAAAA
-----END CERTIFICATE-----

Well, all that i think was easy. Now here is the problem... WHERE DO I INSTALL THE CERFIFICATE?

What else in need to have?
What do i configure?

Please Advice.

i read this: http://www.digicert.com/ssl-certificate-installation-apache.htm

you have already certificate file on your server,
so,
you only need to insert necessary lines to your apache conf
to do that, you need to add custom http to your domain, in ehcp.

choose your domain
add custom http
add following:

SSLEngine on
SSLCertificateFile /path/to/your_domain_name.crt
SSLCertificateKeyFile /path/to/your_private.key
SSLCertificateChainFile /path/to/DigiCertCA.crt

replace paths with your cert path..

Hi;

thanks for your response, i have tried what you suggested and using ehcp control panel i was able to add the lines, however after that apache is not able to start and shows the following message:

Failed to start apache :

* Starting web server apache2
Syntax error on line 67 of /var/www/vhosts/ehcp/apachehcp.conf:
Invalid command 'SSLEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
...fail!

Please Advice.

i have not yet studied on this subject, sory,
you may search as "apache2 ssl configuration" on internet and apply those steps manually.
ehcp has no ssl support directly/easily yet..

see you

I just hate it when i run into something that solves only half the problem. That's why i sacrifice either a lot of time into solving the issue or just spend a couple of bucks and get the job done professional. I bought <a href="http://www.123-reg.co.uk/internet-security/">ssl certificates</a> from 123-reg for both co.uk and com domains and frankly i haven't had any problems. And yes you must implement it, i'm not risking my online business for some money.
What would your visitors say about this ? I bet they'll love the protection lol.
