Domains not configured correctly when using ehcp
#1
after I set up a domain via EHCP the users are routed to the wrong folder, and everyone finds the "This is default ehcp-apache index file." and not the index file in the subfolder that says "here is ...."

If I'm not missing anything here, It seems that ehcp do not configure apache correctly.

Before yesterday setting up a domain sent users to correct folder.

Yesterday I had to do a remove/reinstall, since my password had stopped working. After new install, nothing works correctly.

I'm running this on an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server.

Do anyone have any suggestions?

most probably, you have somehow removed ehcp lines from apache config.
Check your apache2.conf file, the last lines,
is there any config include directive saying like ehcp ?

you need to have following in apache2.conf:
# Include the virtual host configurations:
Include /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/
Include /var/www/vhosts/ehcp/apachehcp.conf
Include /var/www/vhosts/ehcp/apachehcp_subdomains.conf
Include /var/www/vhosts/ehcp/apachehcp_auth.conf
Include /var/www/vhosts/ehcp/apachehcp_passivedomains.conf

you may also use troubleshooter in your default index location.

The lines are there as they should.

FTP for the domain is working OK.
When I add a subdomain, it shows up correctly on the server.

But when I type the domainname, I come to the page which says "Easy Hosting Control Panel for Ubuntu and alikes..", and if I try the subdomain, i get nowhere.

I have used troubleshooting, and everything seems OK, but test 11 i'm not shure what to expect:

Test 11:
Apache configuration checks:
Check Apache DocumentRoot setting:
(This effects the default page of your server. should be only one setting.)
[
]

Check Apache Include:
(this effects the functionality of your domains, must be one setting, Include)
[Include /var/www/vhosts/ehcp/apachehcp.conf Include /var/www/vhosts/ehcp/apachehcp_subdomains.conf Include /var/www/vhosts/ehcp/apachehcp_auth.conf Include /var/www/vhosts/ehcp/apachehcp_passivedomains.conf ]

Is this correct?

Now I'm not shure what you mean.

Should I add this in DNS at DNS server, or should I add this on ehcp-server?

Maybe I've found the solution?

I have set DNS in my registrar to point to the IP-address of my server, I have not set nameserveres to be handled by the EHCP-controlled server.

When I first installed the serveres it worked "out of the box" with just letting the DNS point to the server, like www.mydomain.com -> 195.0.12.123

I will try to change the nameserver according to this article:

* Now you need to redirect your domain from registrar to your server.. go to registrar (like godaddy, networksolutions.com) that you registered (bought) your domain. login to your domain control panel, then redirect your domain to "ns1.mydomainx.com" and "ns2.mydomainx.com" with same ip of your server...
on some registrar, you may need to register your new dns first, in domain control panel, there may be a link like "register new dns" ... after registering that dns, every people on world can reach you, if everything is ok..

No, the servers and my machine is not even on the same ISP-network.

I get the errormessage that I need to configure two different name servers, and if I do like the instructions I found here, both name servers are the same server.

Is this correct?

your problem is above one,
if you dont use your server/ehcp as dns server,
then, you need to redirect all subdomains to your server, in dns server where you redirected www.yourdom.com

To do that, add an a record, with wildcard *
in bind format:
<code> * in a yourserverip

thats it.

dns:
that may be required to have two different servers,
some dns providers allow single dns, some do not,
some providers even do not allow 2 dns server with same ip.
in ehcp way: you may have single dns or double dns with same ip, no matter..

you have said that, you are using a dns server other than your server/ehcp
so, you should add this in that server.

for any people that is using his/her server/ehcp:
you dont need to add that record separately, when anyone setups/adds a domain in ehcp, ehcp automatically makes any needed dns entries.. if you want to use dns inside ehcp (which is bind/named) you need to redirect dns entries of your domain to your server. I also suggest in this way.
otherwise, you will not be able to control your dns fastly..
